2026 Chevrolet Trax vs. Trailblazer in South Jersey
2026 Trax vs. Trailblazer · South Jersey
Two Chevy SUVs. Pick the Right One.
The Trax and Trailblazer are close cousins — same base engine, same safety tech, same Chevy warranty. The Trailblazer adds available all-wheel drive, more power, and light towing; the Trax starts for less. Lucas Chevrolet stocks both, so here's how to choose.

The short version
If you want available all-wheel drive, more power, or light towing, the Trailblazer is built for it. If you want the lowest price and an easy city SUV, the Trax is the pick. Both share the same base engine, the same standard safety tech, and the same Chevy warranty — and we stock both, so you can drive them back to back.
These two get cross-shopped constantly, and for good reason: they're Chevy's two smallest SUVs, they overlap on price, and they share a lot of hardware. This isn't a case of one being "better" — they're aimed at slightly different drivers. Below is the honest breakdown so you can land on the one that fits. The Common Ground
What the Trax and Trailblazer Share
Start with what's the same, because it's a lot. Both come standard with the 1.2L turbocharged 3-cylinder (137 hp, 162 lb-ft), both seat five, both include Chevy Safety Assist as standard, both offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and both carry the same GM warranty (3 years/36,000 miles basic, 5/60,000 powertrain). They're even close in size — the redesigned Trax is actually the longer of the two, and it holds slightly more behind-seat cargo: 25.6 cubic feet for the Trax, 25.3 for the Trailblazer. Maximum cargo is nearly a wash — 54.1 cubic feet for the Trax, 54.4 for the Trailblazer. So this decision isn't really about space.
Step Up: Trailblazer
What the Trailblazer Adds
The Trailblazer is the more capable of the two, and it's worth the step up if you need any of this:
- Available all-wheel drive. This is the big one — the Trax is front-wheel drive only, while the Trailblazer offers AWD (paired with its stronger 1.3L engine). If Medford winters or a gravel driveway are on your mind, this matters.
- An available 1.3L engine. Step up from the base 1.2L to the 155-hp, 174-lb-ft 1.3L turbo (standard on RS and ACTIV) for noticeably stronger passing power.
- Light towing. The Trailblazer, properly equipped with the available Trailering Package, is rated to tow up to 1,000 pounds — enough for a small utility trailer. The Trax isn't rated to tow at all.
- A more rugged ACTIV. The Trailblazer ACTIV leans genuinely outdoorsy, with a higher ride height and off-road styling cues, plus a standard 11-inch screen across the whole lineup.
Keep It Simple: Trax
What the Trax Does Better
If you don't need AWD or towing, the Trax makes a strong case of its own:
- Lower price. The Trax starts at $21,700 versus $23,300 for the Trailblazer — about $1,600 less to get into a well-equipped small Chevy SUV.
- A conventional automatic. The Trax uses a traditional 6-speed automatic, where the front-drive Trailblazer runs a CVT. If you prefer the feel of a geared automatic, that's a point for the Trax.
- Slightly better highway mileage and more style trims. The Trax edges the Trailblazer on the highway (32 vs 31 mpg) and offers two extra appearance trims — the 1RS and 2RS — for five in all.
Bottom Line
Which Chevy Fits You?
- Go Trailblazer if you want all-wheel drive for the winter, plan to tow a small trailer, or want the extra punch of the 1.3L engine. See Trailblazer inventory.
- Go Trax if you want the lowest price, mostly drive around town, and don't need AWD or towing. See Trax inventory.
- Still torn? They're similar enough that the best tiebreaker is a back-to-back test drive — we keep both on the lot in Lumberton, just off Route 38.

FAQs
Trax vs. Trailblazer FAQs
What's the difference between the Chevy Trax and Trailblazer?
They share the same base 1.2L turbo engine, safety tech, and warranty, but the Trailblazer adds available all-wheel drive, an available 155-hp 1.3L engine, and light towing, while the Trax starts about $1,600 lower and uses a conventional 6-speed automatic.
Does the Chevy Trax have all-wheel drive?
No. Every Trax is front-wheel drive. If you want all-wheel drive in a small Chevy SUV, the Trailblazer offers it, paired with its available 1.3L engine.
Is the Trailblazer bigger than the Trax?
Not really. The Trailblazer is a bit taller, but the Trax is actually the longer vehicle and holds slightly more cargo behind the rear seats. Maximum cargo is nearly identical: 54.1 cubic feet for the Trax and 54.4 for the Trailblazer.
Which one is cheaper?
The Trax. It starts at $21,700 versus $23,300 for the Trailblazer, a difference of about $1,600. Both exclude the same $1,795 destination charge, plus tax, title, and fees.
Can the Trax or Trailblazer tow?
When properly equipped with the available Trailering Package, the Trailblazer can tow up to 1,000 pounds. The Trax is not rated to tow, so if you need to pull even a small trailer, choose the Trailblazer.
