Engines and Performance

The Chevy Silverado 2500 HD is available from Chevrolet with your choice of two different powertrains. One is a 6.6-liter gasoline-powered V8 that generates 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, and four-wheel drive is available. A Silverado 2500 HD with four-wheel drive can take off from zero and reach 60 mph in 7.5 seconds.

If you upgrade to the 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8, your production rises to 470 horsepower, and you'll get an amazing 975 pound-feet of torque. Once again, you can choose either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and with the diesel, you'll be running with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. That engine choice gives you a lot more towing capability, and you can go from zero to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds.
